Frequently Asked Questions
-
If you feel nervous about joining, you’re exactly who we built The Resistance for!
Many of our members are coming back to movement after a long break, or joining us feeling tired, overwhelmed or disconnected from their bodies. The Resistance is a supportive space to rebuild strength and confidence at your own pace. We start gently, build steadily, and focus on helping you feel safe and capable in your body. -
The Resistance takes a holistic view of training and wellbeing. Injuries and physical limitations are common, especially in midlife, and we work carefully to ensure you are supported. Where needed, we collaborate close with trusted local physiotherapists and pelvic health physiotherapists, and can help facilitate additional care alongside your training. Our priority is that you feel safe, listened to and well looked after, with your training adapted to support both your recovery and long-term strength.
getting started
-
Classes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 12 clients, so our coaches can give you proper guidance and individual support, while still creating a great group energy.
-
We offer 3 types of scheduled classes: Women’s Group Strength, Special Ops and The HIIT Squad + The Liberation (Mobility). We have more than 20 classes each week, and each session lasts for 45 minutes.
-
Members receive priority booking, and we continue to expand the timetable as demand grows. If a class fills, waitlists often move quickly and there are usually alternative options available.
-
No. Everyone trains at their own level. You’ll be guided through options that suit your body, energy and experience — no comparison required.
-
Each day you’ll be given a Workout of the Day (WOD) made up of 12 prescribed exercises. These sessions use a mix of gym equipment - including machines and free weights - and are designed with a functional focus, so what you’re doing in the gym carries over to real life strength, resilience, and confidence.
The Special Ops WOD is a stripped-back version of the day, with 6 key exercises, focusing on the heavier lifts and more complex movements. You’ll have more time to rest and recover between sets, making it ideal if you want to lift heavier, move with intention, and prioritise quality over pace.
Both options are coached, purposeful, and scalable - choose the format that best suits your energy, goals, and life that day. -
Yes! In between classes you can come in and train during ‘open gym’ times, choosing to either do the Workout of the Day, or your own programme.
-
You’ll find a full range of free weights and functional tools, including kettlebells, dumbbells, barbells, medicine balls and Olympic bars with a dedicated lifting platform. We’ve also invested in a small number of high-quality machines that genuinely add value, including a dual cable pulley, a Smith machine, and a seated lat pulldown and row machine.
Cardio equipment is available when it supports your training, with a treadmill, bike and rower used for warm-ups, HIIT sessions and optional conditioning.
Overall, this is a space built with intention, focusing on strength, function and long-term progress rather than rows of machines.
Training & Classes
how is the resistance different?
-
The Resistance isn’t a big, anonymous gym or a rebranded version of something else. It was built from the ground up specifically for women. Everything from the training style and class sizes to the culture itself exists because women’s bodies, energy and needs change over time. There’s no pressure, no competition and no judgement - just expert coaching in a welcoming environment designed to support you where you are.
-
Not at all. You don’t need to know the language, the equipment or the routines. We explain everything, guide you through it, and make sure you feel comfortable — not awkward or behind.
-
The culture at The Resistance is supportive, calm and quietly powerful. Our focus is on strength, health, confidence and feeling good in your body. There’s no leaderboard, no competition and no “harder is better” mindset. Women train alongside each other, support one another, and leave each session feeling stronger and better than when they arrived.
Joining & Membership
-
You’ll meet one-on-one with a coach to talk about your goals, movement history and any health considerations. We’ll assess how your body moves and help you start in the right place — comfortably and confidently.
-
We offer two main membership options:
The Uprising - 2 sessions per week for $64/week,
The Vanguard - unlimited sessions for $75/week.
We also have a special offer just for our new members - She Rises is a 4 week commitment and includes 4 PT sessions, as well as beginner classes (where you’ll train alongside other newbies) and info sessions. Once you have completed this you can transition to one of the main memberships.
Membership includes expert coaching, structured programming, access to open-gym times, and full inclusion in our supportive community. -
Can I pause my membership if life gets busy?
Yes. We offer a membership pause option (we call it Furlough) because life happens - travel, illness, family and work all ebb and flow. We build flexibility into the model.
Still have questions?
We’re always happy to chat and help you decide if The Resistance feels like the right fit.
